Wild Swimming in the Cairngorms
As well as the iconic mountain range, the Cairngorms National Park is also home to a huge number of stunning rivers and lochs, perfect for a refreshing wild swim at the end of a long day. Even better, head out for a morning dook, then stop by Nethy House Café for a mug of something warm and a generous slice of cake - you've earned it!

Below is some general information about of our favourite spots. Head to the Visit Cairngorms website for some top wild swimming tips, or get in touch with any questions about swimming while staying with us.
Plan Your Swim
Nethy Bridge has a number of brilliant options for wild swimming, both in the village itself and further afield within the National Park. Fancy making an afternoon of it? Local saunas are the perfect addition to any wild swimming trip.
Swimming Spots
Within the village itself, the River Nethy is perfect for a quick dook at the end of the day. Along the riverside path there is a short stretch of beach where the river is deep enough for swimming - our team can help you with directions.

Within 5 minutes drive or 15 minutes cycle from Nethy, Loch Garten is another beautiful local swimming option. A little further out, but still a short drive away, Loch Vaa, Loch Pityoulish, Loch Morlich, Loch Insh and Lochindorb, are equally great spots for keen wild swimmers. Head to Vaa for vast shingle and deep waters, and Pityoulish for shallow water that warms up nicely in the Summer! If water sports are what you're after, Loch Insh and Loch Morlich have plenty to offer.
Saunas
There are a number of saunas in and around the village that pair perfectly with a wild swim!
The Lazy Duck has an electric sauna beautifully situated by a nearby burn. Head over an hour in advance to turn it on, giving you plenty of time for a dook before warming up in the sauna afterwards.
Wellness Breaks
If you're looking for a bespoke break for a small group - get in touch! Our resident yoga teacher, Angie, is available for private classes, and we're happy to shuttle you to and from local lochs and saunas during your stay. Whatever you have in mind, let us know, we'll be happy to help.
